Sister Unn's Demise?

By the way, I walked by Sister Unn's a few days ago and noticed it looked like they had packed up all of their dead roses and skipped town. I can't say anything confidently about Sister Unn's, especially given I still don't know what that was all about to begin with, but it does look like their stay in FoHi is over. Unless there's going to be some sequel?

Performance Art on Austin?

The Sister Unn's mystery deepens even more, if you can imagine that. As a commenter here on the blog just said, it seems to be performance art of some kind. And that would fit with their mysterious website.

Here is what I found at the website the comment linked to (http://rhizome.org/) :
Winter is approaching "Sister Unn's, a thriving flower shop froze dead in its tracks after the disappearance of a young girl." http://www.sister-unns.com/ Viewable November 2011 thru February 2012. Event date: November 5, 2011 10:00 am - 10:00 pm Directions by Subway: - Take the E, F, R or M train to Forest Hills / 71st Av Continental. - Make a left on Austin St. walk until you see our awning. Located on the right side of the street. Google Maps: http://g.co/maps/c5k4k "The girl is the rose that melts in the ice in the store in the back where no one will look for years." by Filip Olszewski and Bunny Rogers

Sister Unn's Website Gets More 'Interesting'

I see they have updated the website of the curious new shop opening at 72-32 Austin St. (in the vicinity of Ascan). And the result is even more mysterious.

In case you didn't see the previous posts about Sister Unn's, one commenter said they spoke with some workers there who said it will be an art gallery.

In any case, the mystery will end soon. The website says it will be opening in November: http://www.sister-unns.com/

Everything's Coming Up Roses?

For the past few months the little shop on Austin, down near Ascan, bearing the name "Sister Unn's" has revealed little about what this store will actually be, remaining all papered over except for the black awning with its name in white letters. But suddenly, the Sister Unn's website has a bit more information. At least I think it does..

The website suggests that this will be a store that sells....roses!

Here is what it says: "We are pleased again to welcome you to Sister Unn's website. Sister Unn's is a store located in Forest Hills, NY and we hope that you will visit us soon. There is so much to do and so much to say and we haven't the most time as winter is on its way. May you ask what Sister Unn's sells? Why we have roses! So many flowers for you to see. In all of Sister Unns favorite colors. We have Faith Lavender Roses, Blue Bird Lavender Roses, Ocean Song, Vendela Ivory, Ecuadorian White Roses, as well as a small sample of Gordon Cole's Blue Rose. Sister Unn's thanks you for your visit and hopes that you will return again."

Quite quirky, mysterious and even befuddling, if I do say so myself. The tone kind of reminds me of the temptress in those old black and white films who holds out her hand and welcomes you into her haunted mansion on the hill as the lightning storm illuminates the dark night... And the look of the website kind of matches that thought perfectly, check it out for yourselves: http://www.sister-unns.com/

Our Newest Mystery

So the awning is up where the short-lived "Dare" used to be on Austin. If anyone knows what Sister Unn's is, I'm all ears!
